We really love good design … graphic, art, products, interiors, architecture, landscapes - thoughtful and creative approaches to problems that result in materials, products, and spaces that transform lives.
It’s pretty cool!
We pursued interior design because people spend approximately 90 percent of their time indoors. We love the thought of shaping the spaces that people use and spend most of their time.
This month’s hi-5 focuses on 5 of the biggest impacts design has on your life.

Your home is the space you live in, the space you spend most of your life in, and it offers you the opportunity to express yourself.
What is your personal style? Do you like modern, traditional, transitional? Do you prefer neutrals or bright colors? Do you want formal spaces or casual?
This is your space, it should reflect who you are, and it should be the space you feel most comfortable.

Total square footage of the space doesn’t matter much if the space isn’t well planned, you’ll have wasted opportunities.
Good design helps you utilize and work with the space you have. From space planning to furniture specification and layout, the flow and function of all aspects of your space are considered and problems are worked out during the design process.

A designer inventories all the items that go into a space and designs to accommodate all these possessions.
Through the design of thoughtful built-ins, closet systems, cabinet types and accessories, and furniture selection, designers make sure everything that goes into the space has a “home.” This reduces clutter, improves organization, and improves function.

Designers strive to recognize the needs of all the people who use a space.
The design considerations are going to look very different for a family of five with three young kids compared to a couple moving into a retirement home.
Viewing design through the lens of the specific needs of the various users ultimately creates the most successfully designed homes.
While we all like beautiful aesthetics, if the space doesn’t meet the needs of those who live there, the design won’t reach its full potential.
